The following is an overview of MHAinterests,
activities and policy for
both new and continuing members.
The MHA is a family oriented
club consisting of a senior and junior division. Each have their own
board of directors and calendar of events. The senior club is obliged to
always support the junior club and their activities. The junior club is
ultimately advised by the
senior club.
The activities of MHA. are
varied.The senior club is interested
primarily in trail riding and has been involved in NATRC and trail
rides in the past. They support the Oakland Hills
Endurance Ride, the Dollars For Davis Benefit Ride
each year, and monthly
club rides (weather permitting). The junior club is interested in horse
shows, play days and trail riding. Both clubs are interested in various
speakers on any subject involving horses. Both clubs are members of
California State Horsemen's Association.
The MHA has, formembers' use only, an
equestrian facility at 423 Canyon Road
on land leased from EBMUD. The rules
governing the use of this facility comply with the rules set by EBMUD.
The rules alsocomply withrequired insurance
regulations. The facility has two parts: (1) a 2 acre arena
area with buildings and (2) a 100 acre pasture area with buildings.
The pasture is only available to active MHA members. The pasture has a
capacity, per the EBMUD lease, of 17 horses. Due to the appeal of the
pasture there is a waiting list. Active MHA members may get on this
waiting list. It may take 3 to 5
years for a space to open up in the pasture. The pasture area has a
covered and locked barn for storage and 3 paddocks. The barn is used exclusively
by the pasture members. The paddocks and the wash rack can be used by
the general membership only if pasture members don't need them.
If you use the paddock you must
feed your horse twice a
day and make sure he has water. You can reserve a paddock for a specific time by contacting the Assistant Pasture
Manager. Your horse
must have current shots and worming. Children are not allowed unattended in the pasture. Stay on the designated
EBMUD trail when you aretraveling through
the pasture if you do not have horses boarded there.
The arena consists of an
announcer's booth, food booth, arena, barbecue, picnic tables and
bleachers. The parking lot is for members only except during events open to the
public. You may have your trainer come and instruct you if you and your
trainer are MHA members.
Trainers cannot instruct non-members in the arena area. The arena use is first come - first serve, but
consider sharing the arena if more than one person wants to use it. Children must not be
unattended inthe arena area. The
facilities are protected by a lock on the outside gate (which should be locked at all times). The
combination is available to all MHA members and should not be given out
to anyone else. The
parking area and arena are not available during the winter. If the
arena area is muddy and wet during the winter months, the facilities will be locked to prevent
damage to the environment..

The senior and junior clubs have their own meetings. The juniors try and meet an the first Thursday of the
month. The seniors meet on the third Tuesday of the month but do not
meet in February or December. Both clubs like to use the arena during
the summer months for
their meetings starting in June and going through September. The junior
club meets at the Moraga Library or members' homes and the senior club
meets at various members houses.
